Delaware Vacation

Okay, so it was a little like a tourist trap... (I'm talking they charged $1.50 an hour to park so you could go to the beach) but we had a great time anyway!

We got dad a metal detector for his birthday. He metal detected all over the beach and found a small piece of metal and a penny. But he also found the coins he put on the couch at the condo, and the springs in the bed, and a metal base on a lighthouse statue, and his keys.

Teresa waded into the water, then got bowled over by a rogue wave...

We crossed the Bay Bridge, which Chad clocked at 4 miles long.

Chad found football on the way, so he spent the drive fist pumping, holding up numbers on his fingers and saying things like "second and fourth!"

So... yeah... good times.

Previously on "The Fence"...

My expectations: Saturday: gather materials, dig holes, put up posts
Sunday: screw boards in and be done
Reality: Saturday: gather materials and dig holes
Sunday: dig holes, put up 1 post

... More to come... Meh.

2 weeks later...
YEA!!! It's almost completed...

Before

After.

Chad is going to cut down the big posts and place vertical cedar boards over the seams.... so exciting!

Last Weekend

Went canoeing Saturday with Dad, Teresa, Chaddy, Annie and Boomer... sadly, I forgot the camera. Boomer seemed to enjoy his first canoe trip, and settled down considerably (stopped barking at people) once we were settled in the boat and on the river. We led both dogs into the river with us to play but when we dropped Boomer's lead, he opted to jump out of the water and rub his wet face and body in weeds and dirt. We dragged him back into the river to rinse off. He got tired and wore his yoda face the second half of the trip.
Annie, on the other hand, wanted to be in the river the whole time! By the time we'd manage to get her in the canoe, she would jump out the other side and lay down in the river. Defiant little girl! Sometimes, while we were moving, she'd stick her paw into the water! I'd say she's more retriever than border collie.
Saturday evening and Sunday we drove up to Cowan lake campground to join Chad's fam. Decided driving up and coming home at night is a much better plan for us than weekend camping at Cowan, at least for now while our dogs are crazy and we have no camper.
Monday, got together at my parents house for Labor Day... complained about the increasing commercialization of Labor Day, and how Labor Day decorations keep coming out earlier and earlier... Good times.

Mismemory or Insanity?

My memory is hopelessly flawed, but my realization of its unreliability reached new heights today.
Here's the story:
Last week John from work told me a story about how his daughters had 2 hamsters. They believed them to be 2 boys, but with hamsters, you never really know. After an expectedly long life for a hamster, one of the hamsters died. A week or so later, John and his family went on vacation (I assumed asking someone to feed the remaining rodent while they were gone.) When they returned, they noticed a baby hamster cuddled up to the older hamster. They assumed that perhaps she was a female until they realized, that the baby hamster was in fact a mouse that had crawled into the cage and befriended the hamster. A few weeks later the remaining hamster died, and Johns daughters cared for the mouse for a couple years until it too passed.
That day I instant messaged Chad to remind me to tell him about how John's daughters acquired their pet mouse. I didn't remember to tell him until this morning.

Then at work, I informed John that I had told Chad about the mouse and the hamster. John, looking at me like I was crazy, but still with interest at the story, listened to me retell the story I could have sworn he told me last week.

He said that his family has never had 2 hamsters at one time, and his daughters would not adopt a mouse because they don't like rodents with long tails. He acknowledged that it's possible he told me that story about a friend, and he just doesn't remember the story or telling it, so he's going to ask his family if it sounds familiar to them. I find it unlikely that he would have told me the story and then not have even recognized it when I retold it.

I also asked around the office to see if anyone else had told me the story, and they claimed they hadn't. I even remember details like where I was standing when John was telling me the story, so my best hope is that he told it to me about someone else.

Chad confirms that I did send him the IM that day, which means I made the mistake pretty soon after I perceived it to have happened.

So here is the question:
Did John, or someone, actually tell me the story, and I mixed up the details of the family in the story and the where and whom told me?
Did I dream the story and the telling and somehow transfer that to reality?
Did I make up the whole scenario in my mind and then mix that up with reality?
Did I hallucinate the situation?
Is this a reality check about the condition of my mind, or is it just a result of a temporarily stressed and busy life?

Well... maybe time will tell... for now, back to work. Now what was I doing?

Good Fence for Better Neighbors

(down the rabbit hole I go)

Chad and I are putting up a privacy fence so that when the pitbull and rotweiler next door come over and bark menacingly at Boomer, Boomer will not be able to get under the fence and chase them wewewe all the way home!
My expectations: Saturday: gather materials, dig holes, put up posts
Sunday: screw boards in and be done
Reality: Saturday: gather materials and dig holes
Sunday: dig holes, put up 1 post
Monday: I gather more materials, Chad mowes lawn.
... More to come... Meh.

Carol's Bachelorette Party

We went bowling... I probably scored the lowest, but I did get a strike once... blindfolded!

Annie and Boomer Video

I got up-close and personal with the video on our Lumix and imovie this weekend... here is the result!

Sunday Excursion

Biked on Loveland Bike Trail with Katie Cheryl and Carol. About 18 miles in all. Now our butts are sore and our legs feel like pool noodles.

Itchy Feet

Allergy Annie strikes again... this time her feet are flaky and itchy.

This morning's statement piece was a tight, bright, terry cloth cowl neck with edgy duct tape clasps (she couldn't chew her paws)... now she's sporting her first (and hopefully only) pair of boots.

She's just a fashion forward girl.

E is for Elephant

Well, I'm going to try blogging. I can't stand keeping up with facebook, and I can't imagine who would care what I would twitter about (as a matter of fact I can't imagine who would care what I would blog about, but it seems to twitter one needs followers... but to blog can just be like throwing ones thoughts to the wind.) Following this line of reasoning, as this is not a blog intended to keep anyone updated on my life, I guess I could just put together a scrapbook diary. But the little part of me that secretly wants to star on a reality show can't help throwing it up on the internet anyway.
So I will use "E is for Elephant" as an online journal where I will catalogue stuff in my life, except my deepest most personal thoughts and emotions (yep, the most interesting stuff!)
I never keep up with this kind of thing, so we'll see.
